Pieter van Eijk
Wetlands International
"Beyond conserving coastal wetlands and their unique biodiversity for future generations, I strive to make these systems an integral part of a sustainable economy."
Pieter leads the Wetlands International program on deltas and coasts, overseeing implementation of the strategy, coordinating program development and supporting implementation of projects on the ground. This involves promotion of nature-based solutions for coastal protection and the development of coastal production systems (rice, aquaculture) that sustain and benefit from healthy wetland ecosystems. Much of this work is focused on the conservation of mangroves and associated habitats.
Pieter has always been passionate about wetlands and spends much of his free time in the field, ringing birds, doing wetland inventories or simply enjoying the sheer beauty of nature.
