Marvelous Mangroves
Written By: Leo Thom, Mangrove Action Project
Primary and secondary school children around the world—and also teachers themselves—are benefitting from an in-depth, hands-on, science-based conservation education through the ‘Marvelous Mangroves’ (MM) training program. The curriculum is adapted to each geographic and socio-economic context, and has become part of the national curriculum in several countries.
It all began in 2013, when the Mangrove Action Project began collaborating with the Coastal Livelihood and Environmental Network (CLEAN) to deliver MM workshops into six rural schools in Khulna, Bangladesh. All schools continue to use the curriculum and have since established after-school Mangrove Science Clubs to continue mangrove explorations.
